This law undermines local autonomy and perpetuates racial inequities within Tennessee’s legislative framework. Governor Lee’s endorsement of this legislation reflects a troubling pattern of systemic injustice, particularly prevalent in the American South, where State lawmakers seek to bind local governments’ abilities to advance reform efforts by silencing voters impacted by police violence. Hip Hop Caucus strongly condemns Governor Lee’s actions and stands in solidarity with communities impacted by this decision.
