Everest Robinson is a filmmaker and photographer born, raised, and based in New Orleans. He shares a story about his time being incarcerated when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005. Everest also shares how the experience defined how he moved through life to become a collegiate athlete, coach, mentor, and producer. Chapter 1 opens with an original poem written and performed by Emmitt Charles. “Weathering the Storm” is a powerful limited series marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina as both a history lesson and as a living, ongoing story. Through the voices of survivors, artists, and frontline leaders, this series traces how a city drowned by government failure, systemic racism, and environmental neglect sparked a rebirth of Black culture, resistance, and joy. It is a story of grief—and of power. Learn more about our commemoration efforts for the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina: https://katrina20.com
