WASHINGTON, DC — Hip Hop Caucus President and CEO, Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. joins the upcoming documentary, The Plastic Detox, as a featured climate and environmental justice expert sounding the alarm about the dangers of microplastics in our everyday lives. The Plastic Detox will world premiere on Netflix on March 16.

The Plastic Detox is an eye-opening journey into the hidden dangers of plastic in our homes. It explains what microplastics and their chemicals are doing to our health and how we can take matters into our own hands.

Rev Yearwood joins a host of experts, scholars, and advocates, including Sharon Cayette Lavigne, Founder & Director of RISE St. James Louisiana, Jasmine A. McDonald, Ph.D., an epidemiologist and Associate Professor at Columbia University, and Dr. Shanna H. Swan, an environmentalist, award-winning scientist, and reproductive epidemiologist, to discuss both the personal and public dangers of plastics in our everyday lives. With health risks linked to rising rates of chronic illnesses like cancer, plastics aren’t just pollution: they are a global public health crisis. The Plastic Detox is the continuation of a conversation around that crisis and how we can work to detox plastics from our lives and our homes.

“Microplastics have been found virtually everywhere on this planet. And when we say everywhere, we mean it: from our oceans to our food sources and our bodies,” said Rev Yearwood. “From cancers to hormonal issues and more, these microscopic plastics are wreaking havoc on our health and environment. This documentary is a wake up call that seeks to explore the implications of this plastic epidemic and how we can take strides to remove them from our lives.”
